Abstract

The aim of the work is to identify trends in the change in the height of the defining elements of the profile of blast furnaces of different volumes for its further improvement. To quantify the change in the height dimensions of the profile, the latter is divided into three specific parts – the moderate temperature zone, which is equal to the height of the shaft, the high temperature zone above the tuyere, which is equal to the sum of the heights of the steam, shoulders and part of the hearth from the level of the tuyere to the lower edge, as well as the total high temperature zone from the lower edge of the shaft to the furnace girder. As indicators of the relative height of the specified zones, the ratio of the absolute heights of the high temperature zone above the tuyere and total high temperature zone to the absolute height of the moderate temperature zone was used. By comparing the characteristics of the blast furnace technology level and the degree of achieving an equilibrium state for the reaction of the reduction of wustite with carbon monoxide, the reason for the decrease in the absolute and relative height of the shaft as part of the furnace profile with the predominant development of moderate temperatures is shown. Factors affecting the height of the furnace are considered. It is shown that the vertical size of the furnace depends on the horizontal. An increase in the diameter of the furnace of typical furnaces from 7.2 to 14.7 m led (under the same blowing conditions) to a decrease in the active area of the furnace almost by half, with a corresponding reduction in heat transport for heating the coke mass in the furnace. The compensatory resource for maintaining the thermal regime of the furnace, with the enlargement of the furnaces, is a significant increase in the blast flow rate per air lance. A tendency of gradual approximation of the height of the profile elements associated with the development of moderate and high temperatures in the working space of blast furnaces has been established.
