The study of the features of the gas jet from nozzles of various designs is an important component of modern industrial science and technology, because gas purging is quite widely represented in various industries, including the metallurgical practice of steelmaking. At the same time, numerical research by means of CFD modeling (computational fluid dynamics) of gas-hydrodynamic processes using the ANSYS Fluent software package is currently gaining considerable popularity, which allows for obtaining results with considerable reliability, quickly and at low cost in a wide range of variable conditions for com- plex purging processes. The metallurgical industry is characterized by purging with an underexpanded jet to maintain stable operating conditions of the processes it accompanies, and the use of nozzles of various designs in accordance with the tasks set. The article presents the results of CFD modeling of the features of gas jet outflow from composite nozzles (nozzles have a central cylindrical part and a peripheral annular part located around the central one) with a different fraction of the peripheral annular component in the overpressure range of 200-600 kPa. The results of the studies were compared with the results of purging through a cylindrical nozzle of equivalent diameter. The geometric features of gas jet formation under conditions of in- creasing the peripheral component and overpressure were established. The advantages of a larger fraction of the peripheral annular component in relation to the value of the Mach number at the outlet of the purge nozzle and the length of the potential core of the jet were indicated. In accordance with the results of mathematical statistical processing, predictive dependences of the position of the first Mach disk and the length of the potential core were established on the jet underexpansion index and the design features of composite nozzles, expressed in the ratio of the outer diameters and the intersection planes of the peripheral and central components. The verification of them indicated the sufficiently high adequacy.
